Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Muela Monument · San Cristóbal de Boedo, La Ojeda, Palencia The hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Muela lies between Santa Cruz de Boedo and San Cristóbal de Boedo, within the boundaries of the latter municipality, a quarter of a league from the village. Inside it preserves an ultra-semicircular, horseshoe-shaped, pre-Romanesque triumphal arch, which could date from the 10th century, although the reused friezes with Visigothic motifs, similar to those of San Juan de Baños, suggest an earlier existence dating from the 7th century. The site is documented from the early 11th century, in a donation to the monastery of Oña, and everything points to an ancient pre-Christian or Christian sanctuary, next to an abundant spring and close to the Roman road that linked Pisoraca with Carrión de los Condes. It was a priory of Benedictine monks before becoming a rural shrine. Photo: MottaW (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in San Cristóbal de Boedo
