The parish of the municipal capital, under the patronage of Saint Peter the Apostle and served by a single priest, already mentioned by Madoz in the mid-19th century as a place of seventy houses set on a long plain, with free ventilation and a healthy climate, with 70 residents and 240 souls, next to a spring whose waters were considered among the best in the country and which served for drinking and other domestic uses.
