The Romanesque hermitage of San Cristóbal Monument · Sotresgudo, Odra-Pisuerga, Burgos The hermitage of San Cristóbal is a small Romanesque temple, built around the year 1200 in an isolated, elevated spot near Sotresgudo. It has a single nave of masonry, a semicircular apse with round-arched windows —one decorated with the heads of figures and devils—, a cornice of corbels with geometric motifs and human figures, and a portal with four plain archivolts; inside, the columns of the triumphal arch show human heads and confronted lions, and it houses a Mannerist altarpiece from the early 17th century. It is the municipality's Romanesque piece alongside the church of San Miguel, from the 16th century, with an altarpiece attributed to Juan de Valmaseda, founder of the Palencia school. Every 10 July, at the end of the Mass of San Cristóbal, vehicles are blessed in the main square. Photo: MottaW (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Sotresgudo
