What to see and do in San Lorenzo de Tormes

San Lorenzo de Tormes
Village
San Lorenzo de Tormes is a hamlet of about 32 inhabitants at the foot of the north slope of the Sierra de Villafranca, in El Barco de Ávila-Piedrahíta, with the annex of Vallehondo; the relief, marked by the valleys of the río Tormes and the Caballeruelo stream, ranges between 1320 metres in the north and 970 metres on the banks of the Tormes. A plaque in its main square commemorates the men-at-arms who appeared in the Duke of Alba's muster of 1494, by order of the Catholic Monarchs. Around 1517 the place, then called San Lorenzo de Balvellido, numbered barely 50 inhabitants and belonged to the Ayuntamiento de Encinares. Until the 1916 reform of place-name nomenclature it was called simply San Lorenzo.
