Archaeological site of la Vega de Santa María Nature · Mesegar de Tajo, Torrijos, Toledo Image of Mesegar de Tajo, not of the place itself. Archaeological site located on the right bank of the Tagus, with material ranging from the Paleolithic to the Roman and Visigothic periods. Finds include Mousterian tools, associated with Neanderthal populations, remains of the Bell Beaker culture and various Roman-period vestiges. The 16th-century hermitage of Nuestra Señora de los Dados reinforces the hypothesis of a Roman origin for the place: dados was the term then used for Roman mosaics, and its name would recall those that appeared at this site.
