Hermitage of San Illán Monument · Cebolla, Torrijos, Toledo Image of Cebolla, not of the place itself. Hermitage of the Virgen de la Antigua and San Illán, three kilometers from Cebolla (Toledo), which holds the 18th-century image of the Virgen de la Antigua, patron saint of the town. The building dates from the 16th century and also houses a 17th-century wooden carving of San Illán, a legendary 12th-century farmer and healer whom tradition holds to be the son of San Isidro Labrador and Santa María de la Cabeza, although there is no documentary evidence of him before the 17th century and he was never canonized. He is invoked against rabies and is venerated locally on May 16. On the third Sunday of September, the people of Cebolla make a pilgrimage to the hermitage, which preserves ex-votos, ceramics and engravings documenting healings attributed to the saint.
