Castle of Villalba Monument · Cebolla, Torrijos, Toledo Villalba castle is a fortress, today completely in ruins, located in the municipal area of Cebolla, on the banks of the Tagus (Toledo), one of the most distinctive defensive complexes in the area. Its oldest surviving parts date from the 11th and 12th centuries; it may have been built on a Roman fortress and was refurbished during the era of the Caliphate of Córdoba, with major reforms after its conquest by the Order of the Temple. It occupies the top of a hill overlooking the Tagus valley, next to a crossroads and close to the old Roman road of Antoninus Pius, which explains its strategic value. It later passed into private hands and belonged to various noble families; today it is owned by the counts of Deleytosa. Photo: LBM1948 (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Cebolla
