Bridge of Castilla-La Mancha Monument · Talavera de la Reina, Talavera, Toledo The Castilla-La Mancha Bridge, a cable-stayed structure built between 2007 and 2011 over the Tagus as it passes through Talavera de la Reina, was designed as part of a ring road that was never completed. Its central pylon, 192 metres tall, is the highest in Spain and the second-highest in Europe; from it run 152 cables totalling 33 kilometres, which support the country's longest unsupported cantilevered span, at 318 metres. The project, promoted by the Junta de Comunidades and designed by Estudio AIA, used 72,000 m³ of concrete and 10,000 tonnes of steel, at a cost of close to 74 million euros; it was opened on 17 October 2011, after the rupture of one of its stay cables was repaired months earlier. Its mast is today the contemporary landmark of the city's skyline. Photo: Nyeke (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Talavera de la Reina
