Las Mondas Activity · Talavera de la Reina, Talavera, Toledo An ancestral festival in honour of the Virgin of the Prado, declared a Fiesta de Interés Turístico Nacional (Spain's designation for festivals of national tourist interest) in 2009, combining religious, cultural and festive events over a whole week around Easter. Its roots go back to a Roman ritual of veneration of the goddess Ceres at the arrival of spring, Christianised in the year 602, when the Visigothic king Liuva II gave the city the image of the Virgin of the Prado, to which offerings have been made ever since. It begins on Easter Sunday with the Pregón de Mondas (Proclamation of Mondas) and a week of talks and concerts, and culminates the following Saturday with a procession of folk groups and floats that crosses the city bearing traditional offerings to the Basilica of the Prado.
