Caesarobriga, the Roman municipium

Historical milestone · Talavera de la Reina, Talavera, Toledo

Image of Talavera de la Reina, not of the place itself.

Pliny the Elder, in the 1st century, mentions the caesarobrigenses among the communities of Roman Lusitania. The settlement of Caesarobriga, predecessor of Talavera de la Reina, made use of one of the few passable fords across the Tajo, and from it derive the layout of the old town and the remains found beneath the city center.
