Gothic Pillar of Montesclaros Monument · Montesclaros, Sierra de San Vicente, Toledo The Gothic rollo of Montesclaros is a jurisdictional column erected in the 15th century, in Late Gothic style, commemorating the granting of town status to the municipality, in the Sierra de San Vicente (Toledo). It stands in the Plaza Mayor on a polygonal base of five steps, with a single-piece cylindrical column divided into seven sections, topped by a stone-carved shield bearing the arms of the Mendoza family. As a pillory, it was a symbol of municipal authority and justice, formerly used for the punishment and public exposure of the condemned.
