Festivities of el Cristo de Urda Activity · Urda, Montes de Toledo, Toledo Image of Urda, not of the place itself. Festivities in honour of the Santísimo Cristo de la Vera Cruz, known as the Cristo de Urda, whose polychrome wood carving dates from the 16th century and is attributed to the sculptor Luis de Villoldo. It is venerated in the Basílica del Santísimo Cristo de Urda, raised to that rank in 1994 by Pope John Paul II. Every year, between 27 September and 1 October, thousands of pilgrims from all over Spain and abroad come to Urda for one of the most important pilgrimages in Castilla-La Mancha, with processions and cultural events; the high point is the procession on the 29th, the feast day of the Christ, when the image is carried through the streets on its triumphal float, and the festivity closes with fireworks. 27 de septiembre al 1 de octubre Photo: Elvira S.
