Castle of Dos Hermanas Monument · Navahermosa, Montes de Toledo, Toledo The castle of Dos Hermanas stands about three kilometres from Navahermosa, on a crag twinned with another, separated from it by the Marlín stream, and is one of the oldest in the province of Toledo, dated between the 11th and 12th centuries. Two theories exist about its origin: that it was built by the Order of the Temple in the 12th century over a pre-Roman hillfort, or that it arose as an Arab bastion defending the frontier of the Montes de Toledo. It had a garrison of twenty to thirty men who protected the inhabitants of the hamlet of Dos Hermanas, which had grown up at its foot. In 1444, the garrison having been disbanded as the area was considered pacified, the hamlet was depopulated and its inhabitants founded the first houses of Navahermosa. Three of the building's four façades survive. Photo: Miguel Angel Masegosa Martínez (CC BY 2.0) What to see and do in Navahermosa
