College of Grammarians of Cuerva Monument · Cuerva, Montes de Toledo, Toledo The Colegio de Gramáticos, a 17th-century building in Cuerva, was founded in 1623 on the initiative of the Lasso de la Vega family for twelve scholarship pupils from Cuerva, Batres, Añover and Ventas con Peña Aguilera, who received classes in Latin grammar and singing geared toward the priesthood, as well as lodging, board, uniforms and footwear. Over time the building came to be used as a state school and as a Guardia Civil barracks. It is a rectangular building in rubble masonry with ashlar at the corners, two storeys and a tiled roof with dormer windows; the façade, symmetrical in composition, has a central door and balcony flanked by the family's stone coats of arms. It was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection), with the rank of monument, in 2011. Photo: Rodelar (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Cuerva
