Sorolla and the women of Lagartera

In 1912 Joaquín Sorolla painted scenes of Lagartera that are preserved today in the Sorolla Museum in Madrid and that spread the image of the local costume and embroidery. The works, titled Types of Lagartera and Lagartera Wedding, have also been exhibited in a museum in New York, which carried the image of the women of Lagartera beyond Spain.
