The Lagartera costume Curiosity · Lagartera, La Campana de Oropesa, Toledo The regional costume of Lagartera, covered in embroidery and of exceptional chromatic richness, is one of the most celebrated traditional outfits of the peninsula. As early as the 16th century there was a workshop of embroiderers in the Toledillo quarter, owned by Catalina Fernández Lozano. It was made of homespun linen and embroidery in dyed wool or worsted, as well as in silk, over tissue-cloth sayuelas, short round overskirts, ruffs embroidered in black, and red stockings embroidered with coloured silks; it was completed with punched high-heeled shoes and long ribbons, and abundant gold and coral around the neck. The so-called galón or colorao costume was reserved for the great festivals and to accompany the bride and groom at weddings. Photo: Lagarterano (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Lagartera
