Corpus Christi of Lagartera Activity · Lagartera, La Campana de Oropesa, Toledo The Corpus Christi of Lagartera (Toledo) is a Eucharistic festival documented since 1590, when the procession that still follows the same route today was established: at the doors of the houses altars are raised with century-old bedspreads, and a decorated table serves as a throne for a carving of the Christ Child, tasked with receiving the monstrance. Fennel, wild mint, spearmint and basil scent the streets, whose façades are covered with hand-made embroidery and drawn-thread work, some of it from century-old pieces that come out of the chest only on that day, while residents wear the traditional Lagartera costume. Declared a Fiesta de Interés Turístico Regional (an official regional tourist-interest distinction) in 2007, it has been proposed, together with five other festivals of Castilla-La Mancha, for declaration as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
