The 1567 union Curiosity · Calera y Chozas, La Campana de Oropesa, Toledo Image of Calera y Chozas, not of the place itself. The compound name reflects the 1567 union with Las Chozas de Talavera, which also absorbed former settlements such as Covisa and Tórtolas. Around the 15th century, Calera, Chozas and Covisa were independent municipalities; in 1567 Las Chozas de Talavera had 50 residents. The depopulation of these hamlets began during the Peninsular War (1808-1814), when their residents moved to Calera. Photo: José Antonio Lagier Martin (CC BY 3.0) What to see and do in Calera y Chozas
