Dolmen of Azután Nature · Azután, La Campana de Oropesa, Toledo The dolmen of Azután is a megalithic structure located within the municipal district of Azután, on the banks of the Tagus, and was the first megalithic evidence found inland on the Southern Meseta with radiocarbon dates that made it possible to place Neolithic and Chalcolithic populations in the middle basin of the Tagus. It has been excavated from the 1980s until 2001, bringing to light a chamber and corridor with large orthostats and a lintelled roof, with collective burials and ossuaries from the Middle Neolithic, in the 5th millennium BC, to the Bell Beaker Chalcolithic, in the 4th millennium. Beneath the mound an earlier habitat is preserved, from the 6th millennium. Notable finds include pottery, bone and stone tools, and the engraved and painted decoration of the orthostats, with geometric motifs. Photo: Rodelar (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Azután
