Church of Santa María de Villanueva de la Torre Monument · Villanueva de la Torre, La Campiña, Guadalajara A church from the first half of the 16th century with a Renaissance portico of six semicircular arches on well-carved ashlar columns, wooden coffered ceilings - a plain one in the nave and another of interlaced beams in the chancel - and a brick and stone tower that gives the village its name. The building suffered significant damage during the Peninsular War and the civil war, which caused much of the original interior decoration to disappear, although the structure of the coffered ceilings is preserved.
