The fire procession of Peñahora

The Peñahora fire procession is the central event of the patronal festivities of Humanes (La Campiña, Guadalajara), held on the second Saturday of September in honour of the Virgen de Peñahora. During the route, more than two kilometres through the fields, the image of the Virgen is carried from her hermitage, located beside the río Sorbe, to the parish church of San Esteban, in the town centre. Along the way, the fields are set alight, in a ritual that combines religious devotion with an old agricultural practice and that stands as the main festive hallmark of the municipality.
