Humanes de Mohernando

The municipality of Humanes, in La Campiña (Guadalajara), was formerly called Humanes de Mohernando, having belonged to the Order of Santiago, within the encomienda of Mohernando. That seigneurial regime changed when Francisco de Eraso, royal secretary, bought all the lands of the former encomienda from Philip II and became the first lord of Humanes; later, Philip IV granted his successors the title of count of Humanes. The town reached the category of villa in the 19th century.
