Reservoir of Contreras Nature · Minglanilla, La Manchuela Conquense, Cuenca The Contreras reservoir extends over the confluence of the Cabriel and Guadazaón rivers, between Villargordo del Cabriel, in Valencia, and La Pesquera, Mira, Enguídanos and Minglanilla, in Cuenca, marking the northern boundary of the latter and the border between the two provinces. It was built in 1972, covers 2,710 hectares and reaches a maximum capacity of 943 cubic hectometres thanks to a dam 129 metres high; it is used to generate power and to supply Valencia with drinking water via the Júcar-Turia Canal. Because of the permeability of the rock it sits on, it rarely exceeds 20% of its capacity. Downstream stands the Contreras bridge, built between 1845 and 1851 by the engineer Lucio del Valle.
