Church of la Asunción de Iniesta Monument · Iniesta, La Manchuela Conquense, Cuenca The parish church of the Assumption, in Iniesta, dates from the 16th to the 18th centuries and was the town's second parish, after the vanished church of the Virgin of the Star. Its history has been turbulent: it suffered fires in 1643, during the First Carlist War - when in 1837 the Carlist parish priest allowed Isabelline supporters to take refuge inside it - and during the Civil War, when all its sacred images were lost, including that of the patroness, the Virgin of Consolación. It is a temple of great proportions, 60 metres long, 20 metres wide and 20 metres high up to the dome, with three naves covered by a barrel vault and a main chapel with 18th-century Manises tilework, the largest building in the town centre.
