Church of Santo Domingo de Silos de Alarcón Monument · Alarcón, La Manchuela Conquense, Cuenca The church of Santo Domingo de Silos is a Catholic temple of Romanesque origin from the 13th century, located on the square of Santo Domingo in Alarcón (Cuenca), the oldest of those preserved in the town. It has a rectangular single-nave plan, a semicircular apse with a groin vault, and a square tower at its foot; of the original vault, only the third bay and the transverse arches remain. Its proto-Gothic portal features four roll arches, jambs with three columns each, and horseshoe archlets with rosettes, in the sobriety typical of late Castilian Romanesque. In the north wall opens a Gothic chapel with a five-web ribbed vault decorated with paintings of serpent heads, linked to the coat of arms of the Pacheco family. The building was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection), in the category of monument, in 1992.
