Town Hall of San Clemente Historical milestone · San Clemente, La Mancha Conquense, Cuenca The town hall of San Clemente is a Renaissance building, in the line of pure classicism, begun in 1566 to designs by the architect Domingo de Zalvide and completed in 1622; its construction has also been linked to the master stonemason Andrés de Vandelvira, who is thought to have acted as designer. Rectangular in plan and set on a corner, it has two storeys and a tower crowned by a large royal coat of arms of the Habsburgs. Its arcaded façade, which in its day was fully porticoed, presides over the plaza Mayor and forms one of the best-preserved Renaissance civil ensembles in the province of Cuenca; San Clemente was declared a historic-artistic site in 1980, and the building, Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection), in 1992. 1566-1622 Photo: The original uploader was Josemanuel at Spanish Wikipedia.
