The cave wine cellars of Villar de Domingo García Nature · Villar de Domingo García, La Alcarria Conquense, Cuenca Image of Villar de Domingo García, not of the place itself. The cave cellars of Villar de Domingo García form a group of more than a hundred and twenty caves dug into the hillside on the outskirts of the village, beside the Camino del Rebollillo. They were cut into a particularly hard rock, so their construction required laborious work. They were traditionally used to make and store wine, thanks to the constant temperature inside. Many of them are now in ruins or abandoned, although the group remains a testimony to a traditional wine-growing economy in the district of La Alcarria Conquense. Photo: Emilio J.
