The marquisate of La Peraleja Curiosity · La Peraleja, La Alcarria Conquense, Cuenca Image of La Peraleja, not of the place itself. The marquisate of La Peraleja is a noble title created by the archduke-pretender Charles of Austria in favour of Juan José de Parada y Mendoza, perpetual regidor of Huete, by royal decree of 11 April 1707 and royal warrant of 15 March 1712. Its name refers to the municipality of La Peraleja, in the province of Cuenca, where the first titleholder held the greater part of his entailed estate and country property. The arms of the Parada family show three bars gules on a field of gold surrounded by two winged serpents, with the motto Super aspidem et basiliscum ambulabis. In 1849 the village had 935 inhabitants, a figure that has today fallen to fewer than eighty; the title has been held since 2007 by Manuel de Parada y Luca de Tena.
