The Gascueña of a thousand residents Curiosity · Gascueña, La Alcarria Conquense, Cuenca Image of Gascueña, not of the place itself. In the mid-19th century Gascueña had a census of 976 inhabitants spread across 350 houses, according to Madoz's dictionary, which also recorded twenty linen looms and four wool looms, as well as two flour mills and one oil mill. Today it does not reach one hundred and fifty, one of the most pronounced cases of depopulation in the comarca: in recent decades it has gone from 199 inhabitants in 1991 to 132 in 2025, with the disappearance of that textile and milling activity that once sustained the village.
