The separation from Almadén

Image of Almadenejos, not of the place itself.

Almadenejos began as a mining settlement dependent on Almadén and did not achieve the status of an independent municipality until 1836. Its origin as a settlement of its own dates back to the discovery of new cinnabar deposits between 1779 and 1780, which made it possible to sustain the mining operation on the spot without needing to transport the miners to Almadén.
