Autumn patron saint festival of Villanueva de San Carlos (Ciudad Real) dedicated to the Virgen del Rosario, a Marian title whose liturgical feast day, instituted by Pope Saint Pius V, is celebrated on 7 October in memory of the Christian victory at the Battle of Lepanto, attributed to her intercession; his successor Gregory XIII gave the commemoration the name Nuestra Señora del Rosario. In Villanueva de San Carlos this October celebration is added to the patron saint festivities of San Isidro Labrador in May and the summer festivities of August, and is accompanied by a procession and popular events.
