Festivities of la Virgen de la Sierra Activity · Villarrubia de los Ojos, La Mancha, Ciudad Real Main festivities of Villarrubia de los Ojos (Ciudad Real), celebrated from September 7 to 12 in honor of the Virgen de la Sierra, also patron saint of Moral de Calatrava and Cabra (Córdoba), and of eighteen villages of the former Order of Saint John of Jerusalem. The image is venerated at the sanctuary of the Virgen de la Sierra, twelve kilometers from the town. At the end of August, usually on the last Sunday of the month, the Bajada de la Patrona is celebrated: the image is carried on a litter, on foot and at a run, accompanied by a large part of the town. Once the grape harvest is finished and with the first rains, the Virgin returns to the sanctuary in the Subida, usually on the third Sunday of November, leaving the town at around seven in the morning to arrive for Mass, around nine. 7 al 12 de septiembre Photo: Hon enrique (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Villarrubia de los Ojos
