Lagoon of la Vega Nature · Pedro Muñoz, La Mancha, Ciudad Real The laguna de la Vega, also called laguna del Pueblo or simply la Vega, is a freshwater lagoon of endorheic origin with a surface area of 54 hectares and a permanent sheet of water, the most important in the Pedro Muñoz marshland complex. Its freshwater character favours the growth of non-halophile vegetation and it is home to abundant wildlife, with more than 23 species of waterbirds, chiefly ducks and waders. It is included on the Ramsar Convention list, is part of the Natura 2000 network, and is designated a biosphere reserve, nature reserve and wildlife refuge. It is accompanied by the seasonal lagoons of Navalafuente, which only holds water in very rainy years, and of the Retamar, of purely endorheic character.
