The 2007 earthquake Curiosity · Pedro Muñoz, La Mancha, Ciudad Real Image of Pedro Muñoz, not of the place itself. On 12 August 2007, at 09:47, an earthquake of magnitude 5.1 on the Richter scale was recorded, with its epicentre at Pedro Muñoz, at the point where the municipalities of Tomelloso, Campo de Criptana, Socuéllamos and Arenales de San Gregorio meet, and it was felt across almost the whole of the Iberian Peninsula. According to the director of the National Seismic Network, Emilio Carreño, the tremor was very shallow, which explains why it was felt so widely, although the National Geographic Institute pointed out that this type of earthquake is fairly common in the area, with one or two episodes each year. There were no personal injuries; the only significant material damage was to the roof of the Teatro Municipal in Almagro, more than 100 kilometres away.
