Every 20 February, Arenales de San Gregorio commemorates the municipal independence it achieved from Campo de Criptana in 1999. Before achieving it, in 1991 the town had come to be considered an entity of a territorial scope smaller than a municipality, a preliminary step on the way to its establishment as a municipality in its own right.
