Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de Mairena Monument · Puebla del Príncipe, Campo de Montiel, Ciudad Real Image of Puebla del Príncipe, not of the place itself. The hermitage of Nuestra Señora de Mairena, patroness of Puebla del Príncipe (Campo de Montiel, Ciudad Real), stands about 2.5 kilometres from the town centre, at the spot where tradition places the founding of Mariana by Gaius Marius in the year 100 BC: a fertile place with a spring, surrounded by vegetation and orchards, used as a recreational area by the residents. It lay in ruins until its reconstruction began in 1971. Its patronage is one of the few devotions shared between two villages, Puebla del Príncipe and Villamanrique. On the first Sunday of June the pilgrimage of the Virgen de Mairena is celebrated, whose image is carried on a litter by devotees to the municipal boundary at Las Quebradas.
