From Puebla de Montiel to Puebla del Príncipe Curiosity · Puebla del Príncipe, Campo de Montiel, Ciudad Real The municipality was called Puebla de Montiel until 23 May 1553, when Philip II separated it from Montiel, owing to its growth, granting it the title of town and its present name. Out of gratitude, it changed the patronymic from Montiel to Príncipe. The new town then had around 80 inhabitants, a population that later declined due to emigration towards the Alpujarras.
