Pilgrimage of Nuestra Señora de los Santos Activity · Pozuelo de Calatrava, Campo de Calatrava, Ciudad Real Image of Pozuelo de Calatrava, not of the place itself. The Pilgrimage of Our Lady of the Saints is the double pilgrimage with which Pozuelo de Calatrava (Campo de Calatrava, Ciudad Real) honours its patroness, held on the first weekend of May and again in September. The sanctuary stands on a hill about 14 kilometres from the village, where there was once a small fort. During the procession, the pilgrims, dressed in traditional Manchego regional costume, stop before an almond tree where, according to tradition, the Virgin appeared, and offer her a floral tribute. The May pilgrimage commemorates the village's deliverance from a cholera epidemic; the September one, originally fixed on the 8th of that month, is the older of the two. Every three years, moreover, the image of the patroness visits Pozuelo de Calatrava for a week.
