Hermitage-convent of Nuestra Señora de la Estrella Monument · Miguelturra, Campo de Calatrava, Ciudad Real A religious complex in Miguelturra, in the Campo de Calatrava, founded in the late 17th century around the original hermitage of Santa Marina, dedicated since the 13th century to the Virgen de la Estrella after her apparition to some shepherds, who found the dark-skinned image inside a cave that can still be visited beside the church. Since then she has been venerated as the patron saint of Miguelturra. The convent, run by cloistered Mercedarian nuns, was founded by doña María Velarde y Treviño, buried alongside her husband at the foot of the main altar in 1785. Inside, a votive painting is preserved depicting a knight of Calatrava kneeling before the Virgen de la Estrella. Photo: Javier martin (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Miguelturra
