In 1663 the Crown granted the privilege of township to a group of villages of the Estate of Jorquera: Cenizate, Villamalea, Mahora, Navas de Jorquera, Valdeganga and Casas-Ibáñez, which gained council autonomy without yet breaking entirely with the mother town.
