A popular celebration declared a Fiesta de Interés Turístico Nacional (Festival of National Tourist Interest) that includes a re-enactment of the Guanche discovery of the Marian image, a pontifical Mass and the Romería Ofrenda de las Islas Canarias. It is distinct from the liturgical feast of 2 February, which commemorates the first Candlemas celebrated by Alonso Fernández de Lugo in 1497 and includes the Las Candelas procession on the 1st.
