La captura de Tanausú

After landing at Tazacorte on 29 September 1492, Alonso Fernández de Lugo failed in two direct assaults on the Caldera de Taburiente and managed to capture, by trickery, Tanausú, the Benahoarita chieftain of the canton of Aceró, who died during his transfer to the Iberian Peninsula. A monument erected in 1951 next to the Fuente del Pino commemorates the episode.
