Gallur to Sádaba railway Historical milestone · Gallur, Ribera Alta del Ebro, Zaragoza Image of Gallur, not of the place itself. A narrow-gauge railway, of metre gauge, built in 1915, at the beginning of the 20th century, which linked Sádaba, at the northern end of the Cinco Villas, with Gallur, where it joined the general network of Iberian gauge, in the Ebro valley. It was laid to transport the comarca's agricultural production and expand its railway market, and contributed to the development of the sugar, cereal and flour-milling industry brought about by the increase in production after the construction of the Bardenas canal. The lack of interoperability with the general network and competition from roads, improved in the 1960s, caused it to lose traffic until it was closed on 8 July 1970; its route is partly preserved as a greenway. 1915-1970 Photo: Zarateman (CC0) What to see and do in Gallur
