Palace of los Duques de Villahermosa de Mozota Monument · Mozota, Comarca Central, Zaragoza The fortified palace of the dukes of Villahermosa, or castle of Mozota, stands beside the riverside promenade among poplars and fruit trees, in the centre of the village of Mozota, to which it is linked by a raised passage leading to the parish church. The town is recorded from 1199, and the castle preserves walls from the 14th century, when the lordship belonged to the Tarín family; in 1399 it was acquired by the Catalan merchant Beltrán de Gascón. Of the four original wings, two survive, with official rooms and private chambers alongside a chapel with notable Mudéjar decoration, its dado by the master Lop de Ram. The building retains carved timber ceilings and original plasterwork. In January 1419, Angelina de Coscón was abducted there by Juan de Pomar.
