Bronzes of Botorrita Monument · Botorrita, Comarca Central, Zaragoza The bronzes of Botorrita are a set of bronze plaques from the 1st century BC found at Contrebia Belaisca, at the Cabezo de las Minas, near present-day Botorrita. The site has yielded four bronzes, three written in the Celtiberian language with palaeohispanic script and a fourth in Latin, which probably come from the town's municipal archive. Researchers disagree on their purpose: for Francisco Villar and Carlos Jordán they would be the archive of a legal district equivalent to a Roman conventus, while Francisco Beltrán Lloris argues that the neutrality of Contrebia -situated between Celtiberian, Iberian and Vascon territory- made it an ideal place for resolving disputes, accepting that at least three of the four bronzes record lawsuits settled there. The pieces are kept today in the Museo de Zaragoza. Photo: Unknown author (Public domain) What to see and do in Botorrita
