Festival of el Corpus Christi de Daroca Activity · Daroca, Campo de Daroca, Zaragoza Image of Daroca, not of the place itself. The feast of Corpus Christi in Daroca commemorates the eucharistic miracle of the Corporales: during the Christian reconquest of Valencia, in the 13th century, some knights who were celebrating Mass near Luchente while under siege by Muslim troops saw the consecrated hosts turn into blood. To safeguard these six bloodstained hosts, the chapel of the Corporales was built in what is now the basilica of Santa María de los Sagrados Corporales in Daroca, raised to that dignity by Pope Leo XIII in 1890, with a confraternity dedicated to the relic since 1494. The Corpus procession winds through the city's medieval streets as one of the great religious events of the basilica, which also has a parish museum of sacred art and silverwork.
