Steppe landscape of Valmadrid Nature · Valmadrid, Campo de Belchite, Zaragoza Image of Valmadrid, not of the place itself. Valmadrid belongs to the Campo de Belchite, a region that preserves one of the best-preserved steppe landscapes in Europe: plains resulting from the Tertiary infill of the Ebro depression with clays, sandstones and evaporites (gypsum, anhydrite, halite), which produce a semi-desert landscape of scant rainfall and saline soils, with two protected areas nearby, the Reserva de La Lomaza and that of El Planerón.
