Matarraña River through Fabara Nature · Fabara, Bajo Aragón-Caspe, Zaragoza Image of Fabara, not of the place itself. Final stretch of the river Matarraña, a right-bank tributary of the Ebro, next to the Roman mausoleum of Fabara. It rises at the Parrizal, in the Puertos de Beceite, at about 1,200 metres above sea level, and runs 97 kilometres from south to north, between the provinces of Teruel and Zaragoza, before flowing into the Ribarroja reservoir, where it briefly marks the boundary between Tarragona and Zaragoza. With an irregular Mediterranean regime, with floods in spring and autumn and low water in summer, it carries an average flow of 6.51 m³/s. Its basin is considered one of the best-preserved Mediterranean rivers, with populations of native crayfish, barbel, boga and trout, now threatened by pollution.
