Church of San Juan Bautista de Fabara Monument · Fabara, Bajo Aragón-Caspe, Zaragoza Fortified church in Gothic style built in the 15th century as a modification of an earlier Romanesque church, already mentioned at the end of the 12th century, shortly after Fabara was reconquered in 1157 by Ramón Berenguer IV; some 13th-century wall from that older structure is still preserved. It has a single nave of three bays with side chapels between the buttresses, a raised choir at the foot and a square-plan tower on the side opposite the door, open to the south with three archivolts. The whole building is topped with battlements, giving it the appearance of a fortress. It suffered serious damage during the Civil War, which required its restoration in the post-war period, and in 1977 a storm destroyed the sacred heart that topped the tower.
