Festivities of el Compromiso de Caspe Activity · Caspe, Bajo Aragón-Caspe, Zaragoza The Fiestas del Compromiso de Caspe commemorate, with historical reenactments and parades, the pact sealed in the city in 1412 by representatives of the kingdoms of Aragon and Valencia and the principality of Catalonia to choose a new king of the Crown of Aragon, after the death in 1410 of Martin I the Humane without offspring or an accepted successor. From that Compromiso, Ferdinand of Antequera was chosen, regent of Castile and member of the Trastámara dynasty, who was enthroned as the new Aragonese monarch. The episode is considered one of the clearest examples of the regime of the Crown of Aragon, in which legal legitimacy took precedence over political powers, a principle that had great influence on the later development of the Spanish Monarchy. finales de junio Photo: Proclamación_del_candidato.jpg: Sergio derivative work: Escarlati (talk) (CC BY 2.0) What to see and do in Caspe
